Dear Friends and Colleagues:

This month’s issue of Nursing ConnectionsTM is a celebration of nursing – of all the wonderful contributions nurses make everyday. It’s also a reminder of why we got into this glorious profession, what it is possible to achieve, and why we need to keep on doing what we do so well – caring for the masses, promoting health and wellness, healing, teaching, and nurturing.

     Donna's Book Pix:
Touched by Angels of Mercy by Laura Lagana, RN

Small doses of genuine life, from nurses, patients and caregivers, that touch the heart and foster healing. These are the beautiful and often untold stories of the sacredness and joy of everyday life for a nurse/caregiver. A must read for anyone who is a nurse by profession or by duty; or has ever considered being a nurse; or anyone who has ever encountered an angel of mercy. Click here for more info.

Cool Nursing Web Site:
American Nurses Association Hall of Fame
Go to www.ana.org/hof and click on “Inductees.” When I first found this site and began to read the profiles of my colleagues, I was riveted. My heart swelled with pride and admiration for the incredible accomplishments and bravery of those who came before me in nursing, many of whom faced incredible obstacles. Some of these names you will recognize but many you will not. They are all nursing heroes who have changed the profession, healthcare in general, and the world around us in profound ways. After reading even a few of these profiles, you’ll never say “I’m just a nurse” again.

Career Article:
Just a Nurse? No such thing
How many times have you said “I’m just a nurse” or “I’m only an RN / LPN.” When I hear someone say this I’m always tempted to say, “As opposed to what? Someone with a better job, better profession, better skills?” Read the article at http://www.dcardillo.com/articles/justanurse.html

Never doubt that a small group of committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has. — Margaret Mead

Entrepreneur Spotlight:
Samten Williams, RN, BSN is president of Natural Time and Intuition. She is a speaker, writer, holistic healer, craniosacral practitioner, intuitive business and personal coach, and astrologer. If you’re wondering what astrology has to do with nursing, think about the last time you were having a crazy day at work and asked, “Is there a full moon out?” There is more science behind that question than many realize. Samten can explain how the phases of the moon and events in the galaxy influence your moods, your sleep patterns, your energy level, and other elements in your life and those around you. That’s why she’s been dubbed Super Galactic Nurse. Samten publishes a monthly e-newsletter Natural Time. She offers an online CE program “Reclaiming Astrology as a Relevant Tool for Holistic Nurses” and has developed a wonderful pamphlet on intuition available for bulk purchase. Before you scoff at any of this, keep an open mind and take a closer look. This is powerful stuff.
